What is EAF?
Established in 2005 the EAF is Scotlands longest running modern and contemporary Art Fair. Every November we bring between 60 and 70 exhibiting galleries from around the UK, Ireland and abroad to showcase the work of their artists under the one roof of Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange. Past exhibitors have travelled from as far off as Australia, India, Spain, Italy, France, Argentina, The USA and Canada.
Can I buy art at EAF?
The EAF provides a platform for galleries to show and sell work from their represented artists. Artworks in all mediums including paintings, original prints, photography, ceramics, sculpture and glasssware is available to buy. Prices range from £100 to £50,000 so there is sure to be something to suit all tastes and budgets. As the EAF is a “gallery led fair”, all the work will have been vetted for quality prior to the event.
Why should I visit?
The EAF brings together upwards of 60 galleries all showcasing the latest works by their represented artists. The vast number of exhibitors are based outside Scotland so, as well as creating a convenient environment to view so much work under the one roof, the EAF also provides an opportunity to view and purchase artwork that you would never normally find in this country.
Any tips for first timers?
Buy a catalogue! Highlight those galleries you wish to visit first and then work out a route on the floor plan which will take you to them. Do not be scared to engage with the gallery staff and ask them as many questions as you want. They are there to meet new customers and sell their art and will be very happy to meet you. Don’t rush in, relax in the restaurant or bar to consider your potential purchases and most importantly, enjoy the experience!
When should I visit?
The preview evening is a fantastic night where you can get dressed up and come along for complimentary wine and first dibs on the artwork. Fridays are traditionally quieter than the weekend so you can have a more relaxed walk around the show. Saturdays usually see the families out to make a day of it while Sunday is the last frantic buying day and is usually hectic but lots of fun. Whatever day you come we are sure you will have a great time!
